Dharshwana Muralidharan is a senior at Gyeonggi Suwon International School (GSIS). Throughout her high school career, she has dabbled in various forms of art: such as theatre, poetry, prose, and much more! However, she realized early on that there were limited opportunities for students to explore the artistic side of themselves, especially since schools promoted the Arts as simply a hobby. However, Dharshwana, understanding the power of arts in education, continuously advocated for greater integration of this discipline, helping spearhead numerous student-led theatre productions, hosting theatre workshops for students in 10 International Schools in South Korea, and leading groups of students to write and illustrate picture books in order to promote English literacy and historical awareness. Dharshwana had undertaken these projects to not just make a positive impact, but also to integrate the arts within education. With POESIS, Dharshwana hopes to illuminate the importance of promoting art within education and give fledgling artists across disciplines a chance to share and showcase their work. For years, students have been forced to sideline their passion for the arts in place of "practical subjects” such as science or math; however, with POESIS, Dharshwana hopes to inspire the next generation to recognize the power of the Arts.
